COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HANGER, EXHAUST, MUFFLER AND TAILPIPE
(METRIC)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item
description (CID) for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This CID covers requirements for hangers used as supports in assembling exhaust
mufflers and tailpipes.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Materials. Hangers shall be made of carbon steel, G10060-G1 0250 Unified Numbering
Systems (UNS). The use of recovered material made in compliance with regulatory
requirements is acceptable providing that all requirements of this CID are met (see 5.6).
2.1.1 Finish. Hangers shall be Zinc plated per ASTM B633. Type II, Service Condition 4
(thickness class Fe/Zn 25), after all bending and welding operations are completed.
2.2 Design and construction. Hangers shall be designed and constructed in accordance with
figure 1.
